Update 14 Dec 2024: Due to personal security concerns relating to my present employment, real-time lifelogging updates to Threads and this site have been suspended and the Daily Log section has been removed for the foreseeable future. I am also in the process of taking down previous lifelogging posts from Threads. Open sharing of updates will resume once things have blown over. —S.B.

Welcome to Steven Buehler's Home Server.

You are visiting from IP address 3.144.37.212. This information has been recorded to the server log.

This site is running on a Raspberry Pi 5 computer about the size of a couple decks of cards stacked atop each other, sitting here at my desk. It has 8 GB RAM and is connected to a two-terabyte Sandisk SSD. The site is coded by hand using HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and Wolfram Language. I mainly use this server for data collection, but figured I may as well add a personal site to it. This is my playground, and you are a guest.

My real-time life log is on my Threads feed. I do not use (formerly known as Twitter) or BlueSky—the former because it doesn't provide any free automation for sharing updates, the latter because it's simply the diaspora for butt-hurt liberals who don't like the former's freedom of speech and want to control everything so they can hear themselves talk to the ether.

If you haven't already figured it out and are easily offended, have "triggers", or have assigned yourself one of countless "genders" based on what you currently feel about yourself, you probably want to read this before going any further. Don't say I didn't warn you. You may safely assume that neither my brain nor mouth have a filter.

About Me

Three-finger salute for Tinder.

I’m a type I autistic 50-something living on my own near Walt Disney World; and yes—I’m a Passholder. I am both divorced and widowed (the former by my own stupidity in the form of porn addiction, which I have openly talked and spoken about to churches and groups since).

I also spend a lot of time working with all the data that is generated by my devices (smartphone, smartwatch, health apps, lifelogging apps, &c.) to analyze and publish my own personal informatics, and share other data that I think is of interest. That is primarily what this site is about.

Playing with data is “in my blood,” I suppose. I work from home full-time as a reporting analyst and Power BI developer with Optum Workers’ Comp & Auto No-Fault (formerly Helios, formerly PMSI)*, where I’ve been since 2011 after doing the same for about five years with AT&T Global Network Services in Tampa and doing administrative work for Holmes & Narver/AECOM in California, where I was born and raised. I relocated to Florida in 2000 and have lived in Lakeland, Plant City, and Tampa before settling in my current location.

My formal training is a 1996 B.A. cum laude in religion with emphasis in pastoral ministry from Southern California College (now Vanguard University of Southern California), but life and my own failings (see above) resulted in an entirely different career path. I’ve also done some French language and culture study by correspondence with the Alliance Française in Paris, and studied French, business management, and computer science at Coastline College before transferring to VUSC.
